bogdanBogdan Dreyer was born on April, 2 1962 in Transylvania. He emigrated with his parents in Germany, where he graduated in 1983. One month later Bogdan Dreyer moved to Italy where he studied Art and Italian culture at the Dante Alighieri Institute in Florence. He then decided to become a movie maker, and settled in Rome. There he studied at the ‘Libera Universita` del Cinema di Roma’ where he graduated in 1987 as film director and screen author. His diploma movie is “Storie di Miracoli”, based on a novel by Italian author Barbara Alberti: a 30 min film, screened at the Venice International Film Festival in 1988.  

 

Bogdan’s influential teachers were:

  • Leonviola (“The Appointment”), Sofia Scandurra (“Io Sono Mia”), Cesare Zavattini (“Bicycles Thieves”, “A Walk in the Clouds”),
  • Leo Benvenuti (“Once upon in America”), 
  • Piero de Bernardi (MARRIAGE ITALIAN STYLE)
  • Alberto Lattuada (“Columbus”),
  • Aldo Tonti (“Nights of Cabiria”, “Barabbas”),
  • Turi Vasile (“Fellini’s Rome”)   and other famous Italian movie makers.

Bogdan Dreyer’s first full feature film in 1990, was his debut as director, author and producer:

Bogdan Dreyer (also aka Bogdan Dumitrescu*), won ten international film awards, including the Golden Tiger).  During the period 1995-2001, he was also a professor at ‘La Libera Universita` di Roma’, where he produced over 40 short movies for his students. The quality of those works, has received awards by the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists (Silver Ribbon).   During his career, he worked with famous movie makers and authors, like: Leonviola, Sofia Scandurra, Barbara Alberti, Tonino Guerra, Leo Benvenuti, Piero de Bernardi, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Anthony Quinn, Titus Popovici and others. Bogdan Dreyer, still German citizen, is working now in Bucharest, on a documentary film, The Total Picture ~ uncovered with Daniel Joseph (USA) and Federico Favino (Italy)
